SuSE 8.1 Woes ......

This is a bug in lprng 3.8.15.    Go back to  3.8.12.  Lots of people 
reporting the loss of print jobs with 3.8.15.

That would be my suggestion, and that's exactly what I did.  Too many things 
don't work (some of them not SuSE's fault)  and I finally had spent more than 
the proverbial  

<reverb> NiNe HoUrS  </reverb>  

 on it....   so I re-installed  8.0.
