Wireless Under SuSE 8.1

I have had wireless networking work ok using UnitedLinux....  "Ok"
being that I'm not happy with everything but I'm generally satisfied
that it works.

The GUI setup tool at least works now with wireless settings AFTER
setting up the NIC.

What kind of NIC are you using?  Do you use WEP?  Are you properly
assigning the WEP key and ESSID?  Could you send the output of iwconfig
(without any WEP keys, of course)?

I see they included ifup/ifdown utilities, but their stupid eth-pcmcia-X
crap keeps them from working easily.  Instead of the simple old method,
their eth-pcmcia crap forces you to use:

ifdown eth-pcmcia-1 eth0
ifup eth-pcmcia-1 eth0

I think is is carry-over from SuSE's PCMCIA-NIC handling.  If there are
any SuSE biggots who could shine a good light on this one, I'd be
appreciative.  So far it only adds complexity and while it seems to work
ok, I don't know HOW or WHY it works...  My NIC's HotSwapped great with
COL and I never had to worry about eth-pcmcia-X.  I knew that eth0 was
the first NIC it would see (either the top or bottom PCMCIA slot,
depending on the laptop) and eth1 would be the second.  Now I haven't a
clue what good the eth-pcmcia-1/2 stuff does.

I do digress...  I guess I'm still a COL biggot.  I like UnitedLinux
overall, but the SuSE hooks are still really obscuring what I've come to
know about Linux.

I'm ecstatic that WebMin is a part of SCO/UL.  That's been nice.
