begin Joel Hammer's quote:
| Well, I have given up trying to create a flat black arrow head in
| gimp. I have created on, quite easily, just using postscript.
| Now, the problem is, I have a flat black arrow head on a white
| background. Does anyone know of a trick to make the white
| background transparent? Thanks,

yup. open it in the graphics app in staroffice and using the color
selector pick transparent, then flood the area you want clear with
that "color." (i spent a long time trying to do this to create a
transparent image the size of my desktop, in an effort to cook up a
way to have xscreensavers run *beneath* the desktop, producing a
constantly changing desktop image. never got it to work, but i still
think it's a good idea. probably should have asked raster when i
interviewed him -- *he'd* know how to do it, as well as something
even cooler.)

envelope, and no animated paperclip anywhere.
