Funny... As you say, the command line UNIX login is and always has been
username<Enter> password<Enter>: the same for Microsoft's DOS network
client too, by the way. It's been long enough since I did Novell, that I
don't remember in the graphical login screen whether going from username to
password required <tab> or <enter>, but I think the former, because I don't
remember it being a difficult transition from it to IBM/Microsoft
networking. And the graphical login for Windows and OS/2 uses <tab>.
What strikes me as odd is this... The only X Windows logins I'm familiar
with are XDM, which goes with <enter>, true to it being a simple front end
for the command line login, and KDM. I had always used <tab> with KDM, and
it worked--but apparently <enter> will also work. I accidentally hit
<enter> and got moved to the password line instead of the login error I was
expecting.
