More glibc/gcc/binutils fun :-(

I upgraded the binutils in my COL WS 3.1 to 2.12 without much problem.

here are some notes I left out.

# notes: you must keep as, ld and ranlib from previous version
# or you can copy the new as-new, ld-new and ranlib to /bin
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
checkinstall
ldconfig -v
