It should be noted that you can do this from another tty than you are
normally using for X, so that you can swap in and out of the console
to monitor progress but keep doing whatever else you like to do while
the install cranks away behind the scenes.

I would be curious to know the basis for this diatribe. Both LFS and
gentoo use this method of install with no problems. Would you care to
elaborate?
