Update GCC from 2.95.2: 2.95.3, 3.1.1, or 3.2?

arggg! Installing the glibc2.2.4 rpms from eW3.1.1 resulted in an unusable 
system, repaired with the linuxcare emergency boot disk (thanks Lonnie).

I give up...
RedHat 7.3, here I come.
