I believe they are in MPEG2 format.  I don't remember the name but there is
a Linux app that can change them from MPEG2 to Divx, MPEG or AVI.  I was
using FLASK in Windows and worked so good that I did not try it in Linux.
The bad news is that it takes a long time to convert the vobs.
