Now's the time to begin planning to make the leap to a source-based
distro (LFS or gentoo come to mind).  You'll never regret the time you
invest learning one of these.  Once you've sacrificed the startup
time, you'll be up-to-date with KDE whenever you can invest the time
for an overnight compile.  The gentoo developer always has a stable
and a bleeding-edge version of KDE available.
