SuSE 8.0 Installation problems

Very good idea, and yes this was one of the first things that I
checked. Mostly to make sure that the BIOS could see everything that
it should, but I didn't check the IRQs - this'll go on the list as well
as Net Llama's suggestion to memtest. The memory is fairly new (about
1 yr and from Dell), but hell, you never know.
Thanks for all the input. From all I've recieved in the way of
responses, I know that at least I'm not going crazy!
p.s. the threading for this email in the archives isn't quite right
because I recieve the digest and have been responding via the archives
to get more "real time" responses :-)

Hi Susan!
Have you booted into the BIOS of the machine and checked the
configuration of all devices (Cards and system board devices)?
Look for conficting irq's.... The reason I say this is that
your machine boots, everthing works as advertised and then it
dies without warning. I have seen similar problems with other
machines and in almost every case, one of the devices in the
machine was using the same irq as the hard drive controller.
Both USB controllers and sound cards can occupy the same irq
as the hard drive and the machine will function until the
USB controller or sound card are used. I've also seen mice do
this, but it was with a caldera distro about 2 or 3 years ago.
