ls command sort options

Or:

1) man ls

2) Do 'alias' and look see if 'ls' has been aliased to something more subtle. 
On my SuSE 8.0 it says 
alias ls='ls $LS_OPTIONS'
 and echo $LS_OPTIONS gives
-N --color=tty -T 0

3) Based on (1) & (2) above, set up your system to suit your preferences.
