I am totally lost here

Thanks guys!  I have been using Caldera's SPEC file to compile 2.4.19 for COL, so that would be why it wouldn't boot with the normal stuff in GRUB...

This is probably the approach I'll be using since I will most likely only wish to maintain one or two non-stock kernels.
