Are you sure it's using /usr/X11/XF86Config-4? I've labored under
the notion that X uses /etc/X11/XF86Config{-4}. The config file X
uses under normal circumstances should be identified in /var/log/XFr3386.n.log,
where n is usually 0 or 8. You should also be able to find lots o' other
useful information therein. Turning up the log level with -logverbose might
help, too.
