Adding video modes

Yes, I should have mentioned that. It's running COL 3.1.1 WS. I had
been trying the old version 3 commands and they don't work. So thanks
for giving me the name of the program.
Unfortunately, it does not seem to make any changes to the configuration
file -- at least I've been unable to make it do so. What I've tried
is (with and without the command line options -xf86config
/usr/X11/XF86Config-4) is to add a VESA mode 1280x1024 that I think
the hardware can handle, then exit and answer "yes" when it asks
if I want to update.
The mode does not appear in the config file, it not present
when I start xf86cfg again, and cannot be tested.
Clues?
