need some help with networking on a friends

Why is the above quoted text all that I see of this message, whereas, it 
seems, while Mr. Bandel (not to mention others on this list) got:

I think it may have something to do with a line containing only a "." and is 
either a kmail, or sendmail, or spam assassin bug (as those are the things I 
have locally that process the mail)

How can I troubleshoot this?
Besides composing this message with a "." on a single line.
