I didn't think of RedHat as a virus

   If you look in your rc#.d directory (for whatever runlevel you are 
running) you will probably see that 'rhnsd' is set to run (S93rhnsd).

   If you look at the contents of /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S93rhnsd you'll see that 
it has an INTERVAL=120, so it is checking for new updates awfully often.

   I changed my S93rhnsd to K93rhnsd so it doesn't run at all.  Haven't 
seen any problems because of this.  And I run 'up2date-nox -l' once per 
week to see what they have available for update.  And I run 'up2date-nox 
-u' if I want it to be updated :-)
