lp refuses to work.

When I was trying to get my cups installation to work, setting the debug 
level to 2 in the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file helped.  Then the logs told me 
what was wrong.  Perhaps that will help you sort out the problem. 

I haven't been following the thread all along, what printer are you trying to 
install?  Have you been to www.linuxprinting.org for help?

Is there a specific support forum at linuxprinting.org for your make of 
printer?
