I give up.  I have both gtk1x and 2x and glib 1x and 2x installed with
no complaints, - the g2 packagers  in their bleeding edge approach
must have screwed up again and got it right.  The only thing I see
special in the ebuilds is a note that glib2 must be installed with
--enable-debug=yes or the install will break (not specified how it
breaks).
