compile error for Xv

I am trying to run linuxvideostudio but get the error:

[kantoine at bigpond kantoine]$ studio
Gdk-ERROR **: XvBadPort
  serial 64 error_code 151 request_code 141 minor_code 2

So I assumed it was a problem with Xv ??

Downloadede latest Xv-3.10a did a make and it errors out at:

executing 'ranlib libtiff.a'...
