I hear you talking.  I made one shot at debian ages ago, and the
installer couldn't even drive my tulip card that works everywhere
else.  That was about the time I switched to the "unmentionable"
distro.

I'm flying along with the latest CVS version of xfce and everything
else (except kde) very current/stable.  gnome is the latest 2+
variant.  kde3 alpha is available, but why bother.  gnome I tolerate
because of galeon, but now I'm mostly using skipstone (another
mozilla/gecko alternative).
