I believe that gtk-xfce-engine is a part of the experimental gtk+2
variant of xfce.  You definitely don't want it with xfce 3.8.16.  Also
if you're interested in the latest stable-but-not-released xfce with
the taskbar extension, you'll need to get that from cvs.  I posted a
howto a while back, or let me know if you want it and I'll dredge it
up again.
