Hard drive not detected properly by linux

Oh yes. I left out that the after reboot dmesg shows this:

hdd: MAXTOR 6L080L4, ATA DISK drive
hdd: 156355584 sectors (80054 MB) w/1819KiB Cache, CHS=155114/16/63

Why fdisk shows different parameters is beyond me.
Disk /dev/hdd: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 24042 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes
