Well, GPG basically "replaced" PGP.  It's secure, fast, stable.  OTOH,
even though it's the older algorithm, GPG and SMIME aren't compatible.  So
there are 2 standards: the Windoze SMIME "standard", and the GPG
"standard".

So no matter which way you go, there'll always be someone you can't
communicate with.
