Installing updated glibc: Conflicts with old install

I did as you suggested. This command seems to be an improvement over my
trial and error approach. However, here is all I get.
[root at jhammer6 Glibc]# rpm -Uvh glibc*
failed to stat /mnt/NetWork/HAMMER8/D: Input/output error
package glibc-localedata-2.1.3-6 is already installed
I did install glibc-localedata-2.1.3-6 before "successfully" with my usual try
anything approach.
I conclude that this installation didn't go right because of the output of
[root at jhammer6 Glibc]# ls -al /lib/libc-*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1249095 Feb 17 2000 /lib/libc-2.1.2.so
and
[root at jhammer6 Glibc]# rpm -qa | grep glibc
quake2-3.20-glibc-6
glibc-2.1.2-3
glibc-devel-2.1.2-3
glibc-devel-static-2.1.2-3
wine-wpo2000-glibc-2.1-2000.03.13.12.01-1
fonttastic-glibc-2.1-2000.03.13.12.01-1
glibc-localedata-2.1.3-6
I am still confused. Should I just rpm -e glibc-localedata-2.1.3-6 and try
again?
BTW, what will happen to my other glibc's (wine, fontastic) if I am
successful in installing glibc-2.1.3.6 ? Will they still work?
What if I hose my machine? This machine double boots. Could I easily reinstall
the old glibc?
Thanks,
Joel
