Alternatives to Gnome, KDE

You might like icewm. I don't know if it qualifies as a desktop, but there
is a toolbar that you can put things on. I have icons for the applications
that I use most sitting on it and a clock. You put them there by make
appropriate entries in ~.icewm/toolbar which is a very simple format. I use
mine in combination with Gnome applications and have Gnome installed for
that reason. In order to have icons on the desktop, I can run gmc.
I'm not sure if the toolbar and a taskbar are the same thing though. Oh,
actually I'm running icewm-gnome which I guess is different than just plain
icewm. I figured I would use it since I want to use gnome apps. It may be
just a windowmanager that Gnome can sit on top of instead of sawfish or
enlightenment. I'm not a big X person; so I don't know these things.
