Alternatives to Gnome, KDE

I'm on the hunt for alternatives to Gnome & KDE as a "desktop". Fluxbox and 
Xfce come well recommended so I tried them.

The thing they are both missing is a Taskbar (like KDE, Gnome, Windows). Is 
there one some way to create such a thing in some of these more lightweight 
desktops?

Something that gives 1-click random access to any/all running programs and 
is always accessible is a must-have.

Any other desktops I should try?
