I have no idea where that convulated instructions came from but it is all
VERY WRONG.
#1 are you running version 3, I hope you are.
#2 all the networking is setup on the install of vmware no need for any
fiddling with files etc or setting up later, it will NOT work.
#3 when you call vmware-install.pl after initial install, you select all
defaults except near the end when it asks do you wish to to host oly network
you accept NO but the next one you tell it you want to access files on the
host. It then sets up samba and you have to insaert a login name ( use the
same name as you us to login to linux) and also put in a different password.
just accept defaults after this.
#4 on setting up the guest system you are asked re networking, the one to
choose is the third offering, bridged.
#5 after install of guest and reboot a login screen comes up, you MUST then
use the login name and password that you put in the vmware-install.pl as this
will bring up the bridged network.
#6 you should be able after this to go to network neighbourhood and access
both user and any files on linux, even to files on a dual boot windows
partition. I can also get out to the net as well.
I am running vmware 3 on caldera 3.1.1 using XP as guest all running fine.
It will not install if the 64gig is selected in the kernel and 3.1.1 server
does that.
