My Mandrake 8.2 keeps going to sleep and I have an NFS Export that I need so I don't want it to.

It prolly is KDE  ;)

Seriously though, i'd suspect one of these:
1) hdparm
2) apm
3) your BIOS

those are the only 3 that could spin down a HD.
