Now I have been successful in that I have got kdelibs to compile and it took 
the reinstall of pcre, as I did have it but as version 3.4.3 and no 3.9.2. It 
also took the 'reinstall' of alsa which I had previously installed, but seem 
to have disappeared.

Why was it karking with pcre-3.4.3 installed and were did alsa go to, SHRUG, 
gremlins.

Anyway I must thank both of you for your suggestions which did at last get me 
there.

BTW I have compiled so far base and arts plus admin and  artwork so its going 
well.
