Well I have yet to get internet on this laptop.
An ast P series P I 150 MgHz
80 meg memory (max)
21. gig hd
pcmcia -- xircom credit card 10/100 (supported)
peanut linux, xfce, some kde2 on system.
problem:
I can ping localhost & machine name as 32 bit numbers address
Use name no go, or there is no indication till ctrl C is used.
The light on the pcmcia connector plug blinks & the hub light
for the patch cable blinks both connection & status. Patch cable is
new and tested at Altex. if I try ping to dns server or gateway
Destination Host Unreachable. /etc/hosts has the names that I wish
to ping with their address.
192.168.1.50 RichardSivernell.sivernell.net RichardSivernell
192.168.1.1 netmax.sivernell.net netmax
/etc/pcmcia/config.opts & network.opts set per howto from
pcmcia docs by D Hinds.
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 setup correctly as per howto
during boot pcmcia is found mac addr is reconized and using irq 11
port 0x300.
Sound works not the fastest or snappy but it does work nicely.
got xfce Postgres SQL and development on it and still have 900 meg
of space still left. xfce loads very fast compared to kde2.x, not bad
for a school machine. just get the lan to work.
Any help is appreciated
