I went ahead and redid the kdelibs once again, make clean etc and this time 
it got to here::

 -o libkjs.la.closure .libs/libkjs_la_closure.o .libs/libkjs_la.all_cpp.o  
-L/usr/X11R6/lib -L/usr/lib/qt3/lib -L/opt/kde/lib -lm -lpcre -lpcreposix
/usr/i386-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lpcre

Its asking for 'pcre' now and I remmeber this used to be seperate in previous 
builds. Another thing too that I noticed is that the download from kde of 
3.0.1 comes with qt-copy-3.0.4 not 3.0.3.
