Are you getting dhcp on the cards or using a staticly assigned address?
What is the result if you type "ifconfig -a"?
If there is an eth0 listed, what is the IP Address? If not, try "ifconfig
eth0 <pick an IP address> up" and try the "ifconfig -a" again.
