2 dumb questions

I knew you'd set me straight. I guess my computing attitude is still over
toward redmond while my fingers are pulling more toward Sweden. I didn't
know I could run those commands to accomplish such things. I am still
thinking I have to reboot, but will try to break myself of that habit, the
more time I spend in linux.

As for the shell I am using, it's bash. My current distro is Caldera 3.1,
with 2.4.2 kernel.

Does this information help on resolving the variable problem?
