I'm a bit dense... but... did you say your server has two nic's plugged
into it and your server is XP? If so, then is there a logging mechanism in
XP that will show if there's anything being firewalled between the two
nics?
The usual network setup has the inet feed going into a nic on the server
and a second nic in the server plugs into the switch box to provide
resources for other clients...
