AbiWord crashes when opened by user

I dloaded the same RPM, converted it to Debian with alien, and installed
it in Libranet 2.  It works perfectly with KDE 2.2.2.
You did not indicate what windows manager you are using.  I am assuming
you use KDE.  Try another one e.g. IceWM.
