New KDE3 install question

I just upgraded to Xfree86 4.2 and KDE3 on a server machine (COL 3.11,
2.4.18 kernel).  Everything went amazingly well.  I may even write a SxS
just to consolidate the process.

I do have two minor issues.  First off, my login window is still the old
KDE2 login style.  I have no idea where to look to change that
configuration.
The second issue, my splash screen crashes.  No specific error message other
than that it crashed.  Neither is detrimental to the operation of the system
but I would like to clean it up.
