IHMO, Ransom is considerably better than many of the SCO executives that
Caldear inherited with the deal, many of whom helped turn SCO from a
successful technology based company into a slug. When SCO went public in
the mid '90s, the Michels turned much of the control over to a bunch of
bean counters and MBAs who didn't appear to have a clue what their company
did for a living.
Unfortunately Caldera has managed to decimate (destroy) the SCO AECs
(Advanced Education Centers), and alienate SCO's formerly strong reseller
channel. In addition the really competent people in engineering and
support left too, leaving a company without a lot of technical or marketing
expertise.
In 1995, Caldera started building a reseller channel by approaching
existing SCO resellers (Celestial was one of their first resellers back
then). IHMO, they had already gotten many of the best of these already
before the SCO acquisition.
