Do your manual install with gentoo and you can get it all in one
whack. gentoo has xfs support built in to the installer, and you can
come up in xfs from the get go.
It depends on how impatient you are.
One of the mega distros will get you to a fully functional system
quicker, but then you have all the baggage they provide.
