the number in ppp0,ppp1...

I have asked about this about a year ago. but I really want an answer.
can I control the numbering of ppp interface?

I want to guarantee that ppp0 is for my pppoe connection, while ppp1 is
for dial-in connection, bearing no relation to the sequence of their
activation time. Right now, the first ppp instance gets ppp0, the next
ppp1, so on and so forth.

Could I do that? which how-to should I read?
