Mine was almost trivial to set up. I have a static IP on adsl, and bought
a Netgear RP114 router/switch.

    internet
        |
     adsl modem
        |
     router
      |  |  |  |
    PC1 PC2 PC3 PC4

It also acts as a firewall, is easy to configure through a web browser, and
it only set me back about $100 at Best Buy.
