some USB audio help please?

I'm still tinkering with getting my Philps 690 USB webcam working, and 
i've made alot of progress.  However, when i record a movie in avi 
format, no sound is being picked up, or rather all i hear is alot of 
white noise.  Now i thought maybe that the mic on the camera was crappy, 
but i literally put the camera up to my mouth, and talked into it, and 
still got nothing.  I've got the usb 'audio' module loaded, so i'm 
honestly not sure what the problem is.  I looked through messages a bit, 
and found this entry:
Apr 25 18:23:45 hal kernel: usbaudio: registered dsp 14,35

I'm kinda guessing those numbers might be major/minor, however in 
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/devices.txt there doesn't appear to be a 
major 14, minor 35.  It goes from a minor 34 to a minor 50 (both of 
which are midi devices).  Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
