WEBCAM suggestions?

Ok... I'm ready to jump into webcam work and I was wondering if anyone
here could suggest which of the webcams are best supported in Linux.

The interface should be USB and I'm looking for fairly good resolution for
both streaming video and stills. I've got access to a CREATIVE WEBCAM, but
have had zero luck in getting it to work. I was already prepared for
failure as it does not appear to be on the "A List" of webcam... From what
I can gleen from the inet, PHILLIPS seems to be one of the best supported.
Alot of people seem to use it under linux.

Aside from USB, one other possibility is using a video grabber card and a
video source plugged in via a composite/usb port. I've got access to a
number of color security camers, so it's a possiblity. Does anyone
konw of a "real" digital camera (portable) that can do double duty as a
webcam?

Anyones experience will be most welcomed.

Thank you, in advance.
