Please post the output of route -n or netstat -r, and your
/etc/resolv.conf file. Sounds like a bad default gateway or no hostname
resoulution. Also what does nslookup produce on any popular name such as
yahoo.com show? Also check /etc/nsswitch.conf and make sure that the
hosts line is set to dns then files as such: hosts:          dns files
