Search the archives on this list for my comments over the past few
months. gentoo is the very best linux distro (tm), if you can
tolerate updating everything from source. It takes a time investment
of 3 days to a week to get a fully functional system, but once you've
made that commitment you have a totally up to date system with all
software optimized for your environment. gentoo is designed (at this
time) primarily for experienced linux administrators, but that hasn't
stopped lots of newbies from climbing aboard.
