Problem with kbuildsycoa

A few days ago I noticed that I no longer appear to be able run 
kbuildsycoa... no matter how much I fiddle around in menu editor nothing will 
be updated in the menus.

I've searched on google, looked for man pages, and also asked a few people if 
they had any ideas what might be wrong, but none of these resulted in a 
solution.

What I'm currently running:
SuSE 7.3
KDE 2.2.2
