Oy vey... This is a can of academic worms. With that said, the definition of plagiarism according to The Random House College Dictionary, Revised Edition, page 1014 is:

"1. The appropriation or imitation of the language, ideas, and thoughts of another author, and the representation of them as one's original work. 2. something appropriated and presented in this manner." The use of someone else's work without credit given, is plagiarism. PLAGARISM is stealing."


My own thoughts pertaining to plagarism:

When in doubt, cite your source. 

What type of writing do not require bibliographic citations? A few examples include opinion papers, short story, poem, totally original works. In these you would not have to give credit because there would be none, you are the source. If someone used your paper, they would have to cite you. 


But then again, what do I know...?... Kurt and David B. are better equipped than I am at this sort of thing.

But then again, as someone else stated, none of us are writing a thesis to become a Rocket Doctor.
