I've been running 2.5.7 since it was released and 2.5.6 prior to that. The
major improvement for me was having ALSA included with the kernel sources.
I've had some "interesting" issues with cdr's with bad sectors (scratches)
and aside from that, 2.5.7 has been good enough for server duty on my home
server. I'd be very worried if I was running it in a production
environment.

I have not seen ANY performance gains over 2.4.18... and that's the truth.

I'd be interested in doing some serious bench-marking with the various
kernels JUST to see what the differences are, but I've hardly enough time
to take care of other duties...
