(actually, i just now put up a story that is of some *actual* 
importance: it looks as if the technology required by the sssca [now 
the cbdtpa] was *patented by microsoft* last december. it does more 
than the bill requires, though, allowing for public-key stuff between 
chip and software, thereby making it impossible to run non-microsoft 
products.)
