newbie ftp question

Hi gang!

Probably a very basic question.
I'm putting together a website and need to ftp the pages I've written 
to my ISP who will host it.
I have an ftp hostname, an ftp username and an ftp password, but I 
don't know what application I need to run to make the "upload".
Any help about what to read would be appreciated!
