one more dumb gnome question -- well, actually, two or three

It's been a longish time since I toyed with Gnome, but those icons are in 
fact created by nautilus itself.  If you can find where in the Gnome init 
scripts nautilus is loaded and eliminate it, they should go away.  The reason 
I know this is because it used to crash so much, and every time it died it 
would take my desktop icons with.
